Sydney man charged over mail theft

A man will face court after allegedly stealing mail from about 160 people from more than 20 suburbs across Sydney.

The 28-year-old man was arrested at his home in Revesby in Sydney's southwest on Thursday night.

Earlier in the week, a hotel manager informed police about a large quantity of mail in various people's names inside one of the rooms.

An investigation led police to the 28-year-old.

The mail was taken between August and February, and police say at least 164 people were victims of the alleged mail thief.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court on Friday on several charges including possess identification information to commit and facilitate commission of an indictable offence.
