Sydney Harbour walk named after Tom Uren

Legendary Labor and inner-west Sydney figure Tom Uren has been posthumously honoured with a walking trail along the Sydney Harbour foreshore in his name.

The Tom Uren Walking Trail runs from Balmain East to Propeller Park, near to where he lived.

Uren, a minister in the Whitlam and Hawke governments who died on Australia Day last year at the age of 93, was remembered at the site's unveiling on Saturday as an active and beloved member of the local community.

He was also described as a strong opponent of the foreshore's over-development.

"He would love it," federal Labor minister Anthony Albanese said at the trail launch on Saturday

"His legacy in fighting for public spaces is so important."
