Sydney Fire holds up Parramatta Road

Traffic is heavy in both directions on Sydney's Parramatta Road after a live wire became entangled on a traffic light, causing it to ignite.

Two westbound lanes remain closed on the arterial road, causing traffic to back up.

Transport Management said the fire originated from a dislodged wire that managed to wrap itself around a traffic light.

The light then caught fire.

Energy Australia is on site attempting to isolate the power to the wire.

Citybound traffic is also heavy as a result of the fire, and Transport Management encouraged drivers to use the City West Link as an alternative.
