Sydney commuters brace for change

Sydney CBD commuters are being warned about major changes as construction of the new light rail forges ahead.

With busy George Street soon cut off to buses, the route network has to be redesigned and 330 of more than 700 buses that enter the centre of the CBD will be removed.

NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance said the changes that come into effect in October, would not be easy for everyone, with some passengers needing to interchange to reach their destination.

"This will be a brave new world for bus passengers, and we're asking everyone to get on board with a degree of patience," Mr Constance said in a statement on Friday.

Some commuters will have a longer walk to the office, with the number of stops cut from 220 to 200.

Mr Constance also announced new bus services for Sydney's western harbourfront to service Barangaroo and the Walsh Bay arts precinct.
