A taxi driver has been hit on the head with a metal bar in a suspected road rage attack in Sydney's west.

It's alleged that another vehicle cut off the taxi as it drove through Campsie and an argument took place between the two drivers, police said.

A 66-year-old man was arrested at the scene late on Wednesday and an "extendable baton" was seized.

His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
