A twist in the case of a man found bound and gagged in a Sydney paddock has resulted in him facing charges after being released from hospital.

Officers found the 27-year-old in an area off Captain Cook Drive in Willmot on Tuesday afternoon when they were investigating an unrelated complaint about a hooning car.

He was taken to Blacktown Hospital in a stable condition and paramedics believed he may have been drug-affected.

Upon his release on Wednesday afternoon, the man was charged with supplying false and misleading information and public mischief after he allegedly told police he had been assaulted.

He'll appear in Mount Druitt Local Court next month, where details of the mysterious ordeal will become clearer.
