Strong winds cause flight cancellations, delays at Sydney Airport

Significant delays are expected at Sydney Airport today as high winds have forced several flights to be cancelled.

Wind gusts hit 50km/h in Mascot overnight, and continue to hover close to 40km/h this morning, and it is causing a knock-on effect for several domestic flights.

Seven flights that were set to arrive in Sydney this morning have been cancelled, including four from Melbourne alone.

Two flights inbound from Brisbane, and flights from Tamworth and Canberra respectively, were also cancelled.

Departing flights have also been impacted, with two flights to Melbourne, one flight to Brisbane and one flight to Canberra also being cancelled this morning due to the weather.

Sydney Airport could not confirm how long the delays would last, but it urged passengers to keep an eye on live updates to any flights.

“Strong winds are affecting operations at Sydney Airport and flight delays are expected throughout the day,” a Sydney Airport spokesperson told nine.com.au.

“Passengers should check the latest status of their flight with their airline before travelling to the airport. We thank passengers for their patience and understanding.”
