Suspicious package locks down Sydney shopping centre

Police investigations into a suspicious package briefly locked down Westfield Parramatta and suspended train services at a nearby station in Sydney’s west today.  

Officers blocked off access to the shopping centre on Argyle and Church Streets from 9am after a member of the public reported the package.

“The item was assessed and was not suspicious or terror-related,” a NSW Police spokeswoman told 9NEWS.com.au.

The centre and nearby roads were re-opened about 12pm, the spokeswoman added.

Trains at on the Blue Mountains Line, T1 Western Line and T5 Cumberland line are now running as normal after being delayed as a result of the incident.
