Teens allegedly kept driving after innocent motorcyclist killed during police chase

An innocent motorcyclist has been struck and killed during a police chase with an allegedly stolen ute in country NSW.

Traffic and Highway Patrol officers tried to stop an Isuzu D-Max on the Oxley Highway near Gunnedah in the state's north-west about 7.15am.

Police allege the D-Max had been stolen from a Moree home this morning.

When the ute did not stop, police engaged in a pursuit.

The ute then struck a motorcycle on the Kamilaroi Highway.

Police stopped to help the rider but the Isuzu kept driving.

The motorcycle rider was critically injured and died at the scene as paramedics were treating him.

Other police then began a second pursuit of the ute.

At the nearby town of Carroll, the D-Max lost control and crashed and the occupants fled.

After a search, police arrested three 14-year-olds alleged to have been in the ute.

They are yet to be charged.

A critical incident investigation team will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Specialist officers from the Crash Investigation unit are now examining the scene.

There will also be an independent review.
