Two prison officers have been hospitalised for smoke inhalation after an inmate reportedly set fire to a blanket in his cell at Parklea Correctional Centre in Sydney's northwest.

Paramedics are assessing more than 100 inmates and staff, with crews called to the site just before 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Two officers have been taken to hospital for observation with smoke inhalation, a spokesman for the centre's operator The GEO Group said in a statement.

"The officers quickly evacuated a unit of the centre to safeguard the inmates from any risk from the fire," he said.

An inmate has been segregated in the facility pending a police investigation.
