Smash closes Pacific Hwy northbound lanes

A person is trapped in wreckage after a crash on the Pacific Highway near Port Macquarie, with reports someone has died in the accident.

Northbound lanes of the highway are closed near the Herons Creek bridge following the serious smash involving two cars, which happened about 11.20am on Thursday.

Emergency crews are working to free a trapped person, while paramedics are treating a nine-year-old for spinal injuries, a woman in her mid-30s with head injuries, while six other people have minor injuries.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter is en route to the accident site. Local police say it's feared a person may have died int he accident.
