Dramatic moment police pulled Singleton driver from ‘stolen truck’

Video has emerged of police arresting a man following the horrific stolen truck rampage through a New South Wales town yesterday.

Two police officers are seen surrounding the blazing truck in Singleton, aiming their weapons at the windscreen, before another two officers jump into the cabin on either side. 

After a brief struggle they pull Rodney Johnson, 29, out of the truck. 

He is pinned to the ground before more officer’s surround him.

As the camera pans out to survey the carnage and debris left in the wake of the chase, a shocked woman can be heard crying "I was just there", as the sound of exploding tyres rings out.

Johsnon allegedly stole the semi-trailer in Murrurundi and led police on a 100-kilometre chase before ramming into parked cars, injuring eight people.

Police deployed road spikes to stop the truck after it was allegedly sighted driving erratically about 100 kilometres south along the New England Highway towards Singleton.

Hitting the spikes, the truck careered down George Street in Singleton for another two kilometres on shredded wheels, taking out cars and side-swiping buildings until it came to a flaming stop outside the Royal Hotel.

Five people were taken to hospital with one man in a critical condition.

Johnson has been charged with a raft of offences.

He did not appear in Singleton court today and a psychiatric report has been ordered.

The matter has been adjourned to Newcastle on December 6. 

The clean-up is expected to continue into this morning.
