Singh retrial in Sydney as early as March

A railway worker accused of burning his wife alive may face a re-trial within four months, a court has been told.

Kulwinder Singh faced a two-month NSW Supreme Court trial, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the accusation he murdered his wife Parwinder Kaur in December 2013 at their Rouse Hill home.

The 41-year-old pleaded not guilty, contending at trial she had set herself on fire.

On Friday, two weeks since the jury was discharged, Singh's case returned to the Supreme Court which was told prosecutors were determining whether to go to retrial on a new indictment.

Justice Elizabeth Fullerton said she would notionally appoint a trial for mid-March in anticipation of the indictment being completed by December 6.

"Being a retrial, it's desirable and in everybody's interest to proceed swiftly," she said.

Singh is required to appear when the matter returns to the court on December 6.
