Showbags galore at Sydney show

The dodgem cars are oiled, the dagwood dogs are hot and the hundreds of showbags are safe for sale for this year's Sydney's Royal Easter show.

Gates officially opened at 9am on Friday at the Sydney Showgrounds at Homebush, with about 780,000 people expected to attend the annual event over the next 12 days.

NSW Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean launched the showbag pavilion on Friday, saying all 368 bags and 55 amusement rides have been checked by Fair Trading in the last month.

"We've identified five items that needed to be rectified or removed from the show bags," he told reporters on Friday.

"That's been done, so all you have to do is come along."

The items included a block set that presented a choking hazard for small children, a bow and arrow set, and a makeup set which lacked proper labelling.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull attended the show on Friday with his four-year-old grandson Jack, who had a go on the dodgem cars as the PM cheered him on.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show runs until April 4.
