A beach has reopened on the northern NSW coast after a shark was spotted just 50 metres offshore.

Authorities closed Lennox beach on Thursday morning, but reopened it again just after 1.30pm.

It comes less than a week after an Evans Head surfer was mauled by a great white shark.

Police, NSW Surf Life Saving Australia and local council officials are monitoring the situation, with several shark sightings in the past week.
