A service station worker in country NSW has been scalded with boiling water during an armed robbery.

Three men - two of them brandishing weapons - stormed the Tamworth station on Friday night demanding cash and cigarettes.

The 27-year-old attendant suffered burns to his lower body after an urn was knocked over during an altercation with two of the assailants, while another worker was also threatened.

The trio of robbers swiped tobacco and money from the till before fleeing in a stolen vehicle described as a gold Nissan Pulsar.

The attendant was later taken to hospital, while police launched a search for three men aged 16-19 dressed in black hoodies and black pants.
