Second NSW labourer fall, CFMEU reacts

A construction worker is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after a fall at a building site in Sydney's west.

It comes as the construction union claims inadequate site facilities contributed to another worker's death just five days earlier.

The 35-year-old man has been taken to hospital after falling five metres onto a concrete floor off the face of a building in Silverwater on Monday.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and CareFlight medics, and was taken to Westmead Hospital.

The man's fall follows an incident last week where 66-year-old crane driver Martin Hall was killed after falling about 10m from a building site in North Sydney.

The CFMEU said on Monday that a post-incident inspection revealed the ladder attached to the crane was in breach of Australian standards, with a narrower width than mandated.

Mr Hall had been working the shift for a colleague who was attending the funeral of man who died in another workplace. That man's death occurred after a truck touched powerlines in Sydney's west.

"There are a number of areas on that tower that we're worried about," CFMEU NSW secretary Brian Parker told AAP.

"The ladder access to that crane did not comply with Australian standards."
