Rogue doctor deported from Australia

A Sydney neurosurgeon jailed after two escorts died following cocaine-fuelled sex sessions in his home has been deported.

Suresh Nair was deported to his native Malaysia on Tuesday, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said.

Nair had served more than four years in jail after pleading guilty to a number of charges, including supplying cocaine to 23-year-old Victoria McIntyre who died in hospital after a sex session at his Elizabeth Bay flat in February 2009.

He also pleaded guilty to manslaughter, by gross negligence, in failing to call an ambulance for another woman, Suellen Domingues-Zaupa, 22, who died in his flat in November 2009 after a similar incident.

Although Nair had lived in Australia since he was a child, he had never taken up citizenship.

His resident visa was cancelled on July 30 "on character grounds", Mr Morrison's spokesman told AAP on Thursday.

Nair was released from prison on July 31 and taken to Villawood Detention Centre as an unlawful non-citizen.

"I take very seriously my role in protecting the community from the risk of harm by non-citizens who engage in criminal conduct," Mr Morrison said.

The NSW government this week said it would move to tighten hospital complaint rules after reports Nair, who worked at Nepean Hospital, was allowed to continue operating despite health authorities suspecting he was a cocaine addict.
