Firefighters have put out a fire at an inner-city Sydney restaurant.

Forty firefighters were involved in tackling the blaze on the top floor of Argentinian eatery Porteno in Surry Hills on Friday afternoon.

It was understood to have been closed while the owners focused on a pop-up restaurant in Hyde Park for the Sydney Festival.
