Remains confirmed as missing NSW mum

Human remains found in the NSW Southern Highlands have been positively identified as belonging to Kathleen Lidden who had been missing from the area for six months.

The skeletal remains were located by a member of the public in bushland north of Lake Alexandra at Mittagong on Saturday afternoon.

"Results of a post-mortem examination conducted in the following days has positively identified the remains of a 52-year-old woman from Bowral," NSW Police said in a statement on Friday.

Ms Lidden disappeared on June 13 after leaving her Bowral home on foot without any personal belongings. Later that day she was captured on CCTV outside a shop in nearby Mittagong.

Extensive searches of the area in June and September failed to locate the NSW mother.

“Heartbroken for Kathy’s loved ones. We are honoured to have known Kathy and cherish the love of art, baking and foraging she inspired inn our son," one Facebook user wrote. "My heart aches. RIP beautiful soul xox."
