Rainy start to the school term for NSW students

After a spell of dry and sunny days during the New South Wales school holidays, students will return to school in overcast and wet conditions.

Widespread showers as well as storms are forecast for eastern parts of the state tomorrow.

The most extensive rains will be seen around the northern coasts and ranges, with between 5 and 20 millimetres expected. However Sydney looks to only get about 5mm in falls. These showers and storms will be caused by a trough moving across the state.

Conditions will clear from Tuesday as the through moves off the coast, leading to mostly clear days for much of the state.

Wednesday will see a return to showery conditions, with a few storms, as a combination of troughs and a cold front moves across the state.

Thursday will be the rainiest day the state has seen in a while, with the heaviest falls focused about the ranges where as much as 30 mm can be expected. After the recent dry spell these falls should be a welcome relief.
