A 2.5 magnitude earthquake has struck a small seaside town on the NSW mid-north coast but doesn't appear to have stirred anyone from their slumber.

The small quake hit at 7.46pm on Wednesday night near Harrington, east of Taree, at a depth of one kilometre.

Emergency services had no reports of damage.
