Qantas plane on way to Melb back in Syd

A Qantas plane flying out of Sydney to Melbourne has landed back in Sydney after problems with the landing gear.

Flight number QF429 was scheduled to arrived in Melbourne just after 1pm on Friday but turned back and made a safe landing at Sydney Airport after the landing gear refused to retract.

"We can't go very high or fast, so the pilot decided to land back in Sydney," a spokesman from Qantas told AAP.

Passengers on board the flight will be put on the next available, with flights scheduled to Melbourne every half an hour to an hour, he said.
