Protester who damaged PM's office in court

A protester who has pleaded guilty to twice damaging Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's eastern Sydney office over the government's asylum seeker policy earlier this year is expected to be sentenced when he returns to court next month.

Stephen John Langford, 50, of Paddington had earlier pleaded guilty to two charges of destroying or damaging property with a value less than $2000 and successfully applied for his matter to be adjourned during a brief mention at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday, where he was supported by a small group.

On the nights of May 4 and 14 this year, Langford "did intentionally damage property to ... Prime Minister's Office the property of Malcolm Turnbull," court documents state.

Langford used the cover of darkness when targeting the prime minister's Edgecliff office, with the first taking place between the hours of 7pm and 6.30am and the second just after 3.30am.

Further negotiations are expected between Langford and the prosecution before his next appearance on August 25 with Magistrate Michael Barko hearing on Wednesday there were some problems with paperwork.

Around 20 protesters rallied outside court ahead of Langford's appearance holding a sign saying: "welcome asylum seekers".
