Prison visitors nabbed in NSW blitz

Drugs wrapped as lollies, contraband hidden in children's clothing, balloons of heroin and marijuana hidden in women's pants or mouths.

It sounds like out of an episode of Orange is the New Black, but they are just some of the ways visitors at NSW prisons were caught trying to smuggle in contraband over the weekend.

A blitz across NSW prisons, including Goulburn, Cessnock, Long Bay, Bathurst and mid-north coast correctional centres, resulted in four women and two men being nabbed.

Officers and sniffer dogs from Corrective Services NSW carried out the operation.

A 24-year-old man, who was visiting Goulburn jail, was arrested after a sniffer dog detected an odour while screening him.

Officers searched him and allegedly found 11 balloons containing more than 42 grams of the drug `ice' in a lolly pack hidden under his arm pit.

Officers allegedly found seven balloons of drugs down the pants of a 43-year woman who visiting an inmate at Cessnock jail.

At Long Bay jail a 51-year woman is accused of hiding contraband, including two key ring-style mobile phones, two sim cards, two USB clips and more than five grams of buprenorphine tablets, within the clothing of an infant.

While a woman, 32, was observed on CCTV allegedly handing a package to a male inmate. It's alleged she smuggled two balloons, containing buprenorphine, ice and marijuana, in her mouth.

Corrective Services NSW Commissioner Peter Severin said there is "absolutely no tolerance for contraband" and visitors risk criminal charges by trying to smuggle banned goods to inmates.
