Postie pick-up now easier in Sydney's west

Commuters travelling through one of Sydney's busiest train stations will no longer need to rush home to meet the postie as Australia Post lockers are installed at Parramatta station.

Using an access code sent via text or email, customers waiting for a parcel will now be able to pick up their packages from the lockers at any time of the day once their item has arrived.

The lockers, which are free to use, follow a NSW government trial that let customers pick up groceries ordered online from Woolworths at Bondi Junction station, in the city's east.

"Everyone wants to save time, so we thought bringing the parcels to the station so you get your delivery the first time would be a perfect fit," Transport Minister Andrew Constance said on Wednesday.

The new scheme would save people from "trekking out of the way" to pick up their post, Mr Constance said.

If the scheme proves popular, the lockers will be rolled out at train stations across the city.
