Police warn Splendour revellers over drugs

Festival-goers can expect to be caught if they bring illegal drugs to this weekend's Splendour In The Grass festival on NSW's mid-north coast, police say.

Revellers were expected to start arriving at the campsite in North Byron Parklands in Wooyung from Wednesday ahead of the festival's official run from Friday to Sunday.

A high-visibility police operation will be in place throughout the three days, targeting illegal drug use and supply, alcohol-fuelled violence and anti-social behaviour.

Officers will also be targeting speeding, drink- and drug-driving, and other dangerous behaviours.

Superintendent Dave Roptell said police want revellers to be aware of the consequences of risky behaviour while ensuring people have a safe and enjoyable experience.

"Festival-goers who choose to do the wrong thing not only compromise their own safety, but also risk the safety of others around them," Supt Roptell said in a statement.

"Those who bring illegal drugs into the festival can expect to be caught and dealt with accordingly," he said.

Supt Roptell urged people to behave responsibly as prohibited drugs are illegal and potentially life-threatening, especially when combined with alcohol.

"Anyone under the influence, or who feels unwell, is urged to seek professional medical attention," he said.

"Be warned that if you choose to break the law, disrupt other festival-goers, or create issues for the local community, you can expect to be arrested," Supt Roptell said.

He also urged those driving to the festival to plan ahead, stick to the speed limit and ensure all passengers are wearing a seatbelt.
