The death of a 69-year-old woman is being treated as suspicious after her body was discovered in Sydney's east.

Police were called to Kimberley McRae's unit on Mount Street in Coogee about 10am on Tuesday, where they found the woman's body.

Her cause of death remains unclear.

Ms McRae lived alone and did not own a vehicle but was known to walk and exercise in the Coogee area, police said.

They say she worked in the sex industry and had also been known as Isabella, Samantha and Sabrina.

Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty on Friday said Ms McRae was last seen on January 7 and her phone was in use the following day.

"Her exact movements from the last time she was seen last Tuesday and when her body was found seven days later (are) unclear," Det Supt Doherty said in a statement.

"Kim had a distinct personal style with recognisable features and a wide circle of associates."
