Police officer hit on chin in Sydney CBD

A man will face court after he allegedly punched a senior constable on the chin as police broke up a fight in Sydney's CBD.

Police were called to the fight at the intersection of George Street and Bridge Street at around 10.50pm on Saturday and as they intervened the officer was struck.

A 44-year-old man was arrested and charged with assaulting police without occasioning actual bodily harm and drug possession.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on April 5.
