Police have allowed the residents of a street in Sydney’s south west to return to their homes, after the discovery of a “suspicious object” turned out to be a false alarm.

A resident called police after spotting the object out the front of their Judith St, Chester Hill, house at 11.30am.

Police evacuated several nearby houses as a precaution.

The bomb disposal squad and Police Rescue were called to the scene to assess the object but a police spokeswoman said the object turned out to be “not suspicious”.

Police declared the scene “all clear” shortly after 2pm.
