Emergency services free injured man after Sydney wall collapse

Emergency crews have rescued a badly injured man, who was trapped by rubble after a wall collapse at Hornsby, in Sydney's north.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to a Rural Fire Service depot in Hornsby about 8am after the wall collapsed on the man.

The collapse also brought down scaffolding and powerlines, but they were not live, a NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman said.

Emergency services spent about an hour and a half working to free the man, aged in his 40s, before pulling him free about 9.30am.

He suffered serious chest and back injuries during the collapse and is now being taken to hospital.

The NSW Rural Fire Service confirmed, via Twitter, the injured man was a construction worker carrying out work and not an RFS volunteer.

It is understood he was working on the wall when it collapsed.
