Perisher shocked as resort gets dumping of snow in November

Perisher can’t believe its eyes today – with snow falling at the resort this morning as temperatures dropped below zero degrees.

The unusually late snowfall came around 7am and is showing no sign of slowing down.

Big flakes of snow are being dumped across the resort, blanketing the empty ski fields.

While the snow has been an unexpected surprise for the alps, it's not "completely unusual", according to Weatherzone.

"It’s not completely uncommon to see this type of snap in late spring. Spring weather is a bit more unpredictable and its not completely unusual for this time of year," meteorologist Jacobus Cronje told 9news.com.au.

The snowfall was caused by a system which brought rainfall and snow over the alpine regions, it has now moved off the coast and formed a low in the Tasman. 

Meanwhile, November has also heralded rain and hail in various parts of New South Wales.

The Illawarra has been lashed by severe thunderstorms with hail stones battering some suburbs.

Heavy rain and strong winds swept across Sydney, with the city enduring its coldest November weekend in almost 50 years.
