Initial investigations suggest the man was hit by a white Mitsubishi four-wheel drive travelling south along the highway.

The driver, a 43-year-old woman, stopped after the crash and was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

She and her two passengers, a man and a child, were not injured in the collision.

The highway has been closed to southbound traffic while investigations continue.
