NSW woman behind bars over alleged murder

A woman accused of stabbing to death her mother in Sydney's west will spend the Australia Day long weekend behind bars.

Siham Khatib, 33, was arrested in South Granville early on Thursday morning shortly after her mother was found in a nearby house with multiple stab wounds.

Paramedics and police tried to revive the 63-year-old victim but she died at the scene.

Khatib was later charged with her murder.

She wasn't required to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Friday and will remain in custody as no application for bail was made and it was formally refused.

She is due to face Parramatta Local Court on Monday.
