Two people have died in a light plane crash in New South Wales.

The plane crashed at a property in Carcoar, in the central west of the state, after leaving Orange Regional Airport this afternoon.

Emergency services were called at 7.45pm, NSW Police said in a statement tonight, but both people on board died at the scene.

The pair, believed to be a woman and a man, have not yet been identified.

Chifley District police established a crime scene and are investigating further.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner, and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been informed.
