Police are appealing for information after the suspicious death of a 20-month-old boy in central west NSW last week.

Emergency services were called to a home at Neilrex, about 60km south of Coonabarabran, on March 23 following reports of a toddler who had been coughing.

The boy, who appeared to not be breathing, was taken to Coolah District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Forensic officers went back to the home on Wednesday to examine it, police say.

The toddler's death is now being treated as suspicious, and police are appealing for information from the public about the incident.
