NSW shooting victim's condition improves

The condition of a father-of-five shot in the head in Sydney's southwest has improved, and he's now serious but stable in hospital.

Walid Kamoun, 54, was shot in the head through the window of his Yagoona home on Monday night.

His family are at odds to understand why he was gunned down, while police believe the attack was targeted.

Mr Kamoun was in a critical condition in Liverpool Hospital on Tuesday but has since shown signs of improvement.

A hospital spokesman said on Wednesday morning he was in a serious but stable condition.

Mr Kamoun's son, Mustafa Kamoun, spoke to media after the shooting and said his father was in a deep coma.

"He is on life support," he told Network Ten on Tuesday.

"We are in hope, we have to stay patient."

Mustafa deplored the attack against his father.

"You don't go shooting someone point blank," he said.

"It's just disgusting."

The gunman is still at large with police looking for a man, described as 170cm tall, of slight build and dressed in dark clothing, who was seen in the area when the shooting occurred.

Neighbours told reporters a man had knocked on another resident's door looking for Mr Kamoun not long before he was shot.

Relatives have described Mr Kamoun as a humble man who earned a living selling products at local markets.
