NSW seeks 'slapping therapist' extradition

NSW detectives are applying to extradite a Chinese national who conducts controversial "slapping therapy" courses from the UK to Australia over the death of a six-year-old diabetic boy.

The boy was taken to a week-long self-healing conference conducted by Hongchi Xiao in April 2015.

He was later found unconscious in a Hurstville hotel in Sydney's south and died.

NSW police on Wednesday revealed 53-year-old Xiao had been arrested late last month at London airport over an outstanding manslaughter warrant.

He has appeared before a Westminster court and will reappear next month as detectives seek his extradition to Australia.

The boy's parents and grandmother have also been charged over the death.
