NSW Premier Baird makes good on Origin bet

NSW Premier Mike Baird has been forced to confront his personal kryptonite, donning a Queensland State of Origin jersey in the parliament - and then ripping it off, Superman-style, to reveal the sky-blue underneath.

There were brays and cheers in the NSW Legislative Assembly as Mr Baird threw the maroon garment to the floor of the chamber and Deputy Premier Troy Grant stomped on it several times for good measure.

Mr Baird and his Queensland counterpart, Annastacia Palaszczuk, had a bet riding on this year's Origin result, and the Blues' defeat was there for all to see on Tuesday as the NSW premier made good on his wager.

"Madam Speaker, we are a government that keeps our promises, so I say to the Maroons and Premier Palaszczuk, congratulations," Mr Baird said as the first question time of the spring session drew to a close.

But as he stripped down to white business shirt and blue NSW kit, Mr Baird was defiant: "But I also say this - we will see you next year!"
