NSW policeman threatened with speargun

A police officer has drawn his gun on a man who allegedly confronted him with a loaded speargun on the NSW south coast.

The 24-year-old eventually dropped the weapon along with a knife and a crowbar following two warnings during a brief stand-off at a home in the Shoalhaven on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say they they were called to a domestic dispute at the Callala Bay residence about 2.45pm and spoke with a number of family members.

Shortly after, the armed man showed up. Officers immediately demanded he drop the weapons but he ignored the order.

One then drew his firearm and again ordered the man to surrender.

He has been refused bail and will face Nowra Local Court on Wednesday charged with two counts of being armed with intent, possessing a loaded speargun in a public place and possessing offensive weapons in a public place.
