NSW police remember fallen officers in nation-wide ride

NSW police are joining colleagues in a nation-wide motorbike ride to remember fallen Australian officers.

The NSW group left Sydney on Saturday morning on the Wall to Wall: Ride for Remembrance to the National Police Memorial in Canberra where they will commemorate the sacrifices of Australian officers.

The annual ride was developed by mates to honour fallen officers, NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Jenkins says.

"While we are thankful the NSW scroll is blank this year, our colleagues at Queensland Police will sadly add the name of Senior Constable Brett Forte, who was shot and killed in the line of duty in May 2017 at the Lockyer Valley," Mr Jenkins said in a statement on Saturday.

The ride begins at various locations across the country and a baton is collected at each place to be delivered to Canberra's national memorial where the names of officers who have died in the past year are added to the National Wall of Remembrance.

"The police family are a close-knit group who support each other and their families in a way which makes me very proud," NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said.

For the first time, the ride has partnered with the Centre for Road Safety to promote the Towards Zero campaign and encourage all road users to change the way they think about road safety.

All funds raised during the Wall to Wall ride by the NSW contingent will go toward NSW Police Legacy.
