NSW P-plater dies after crashing into tree

A teenage P-plate driver has died after hitting a tree in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Police say the 18-year-old was driving on East Gresford Rd, north of Maitland, when her car left the road and hit the tree about 6.40am on Friday.

She was the only one in the car and died at the scene.
