A man has been extradited to NSW from Victoria over charges of allegedly setting fire to a passenger in his own van in Sydney three years ago.

The 33-year-old had allegedly argued with his passenger in 2013 while driving near Mascot when he doused him in petrol and set him alight.

Bystanders rushed to the pair's aid after the van sped through an intersection while on fire before stopping in the gutter.

Both men suffered serious burns and the driver was arrested over the incident but was granted conditional bail.

He was arrested in Victoria on Friday after failing to appear in court in October, and is due to face Central Local Court on Wednesday.
