NSW man dies in collision with safety cam

A man is dead after the car he was travelling in hit one of the cameras that monitor NSW highways.

A 28-year-old man was killed early on Monday when the station wagon he was in left the Hume Highway near Cootamundra and struck the metal structure of a "Safe-T-Cam", police said.

The driver, a 30-year-old woman, has been transferred to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.

The camera is one of 24 scattered along the state's major roads in a bid to address truck crashes caused by speed and fatigue.
