NSW man charged with robbing disabled man

A man has been charged after he allegedly robbed a disabled man while pretending to help him get on a Sydney train.

Police said the 38-year-old Oak Flats man spoke to the disabled man, from Moss Vale, while he waited for a train at Padstow Railway Station in Sydney's south on January 2.

The man then picked up the 39-year-old victim's backpack and carry-bag, offering to take them onto the train for him.

Instead, he allegedly ran off with the bags that contained a family engagement ring and laptop.

Police charged the 38-year-old on Thursday after he contacted police when his image was posted on Facebook by Bankstown detectives.

He is due to face Bankstown Local Court on April 1.
