NSW man charged with firefighter assault

A man had to be tasered after allegedly assaulting a firefighter while hindering crews at a blaze and ramming a police car in the south of NSW.

Police say the 42-year-old man tried to prevent firefighters from putting out a grassfire at Rock Flat, near Cooma, about 3.15pm on Sunday.

He allegedly slammed the door of a fire truck onto a firefighter's leg.

Crews then allegedly spotted a firearm in the man's car, left the scene and called police.

When officers tried to talk to the man he allegedly rammed a police car, drove off and was stopped in a nearby paddock.

Police say they tasered the man twice before they could handcuff him.

The 42-year-old has been charged with numerous offences, including malicious damage to a police car.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Cooma Local Court on June 9.
