NSW man attacks elderly father, fires gun

A NSW man accused of bashing his elderly father while carrying an illegal gun is due to face court.

Police say the 49-year-old man forced his way into his parents' home in O'Connell near Bathurst late on Saturday night and attacked his 79-year-old father, seriously injuring him.

He also fired a gun shot into the floor before fleeing in his ute.

The father was treated for multiple fractures and lacerations at Bathurst hospital before being released, police said.

The son will face Bathurst Local Court on Monday on seven charges including recklessly cause grievous bodily harm, special aggravated break and enter and firearm charges.
