A 41-year-old man will face court after he allegedly tried to lure a teenage girl into his vehicle while she waited for her school bus in the NSW Southern Highlands.

Police allege the Thirlmere man approached the 13-year-old on Thursday morning and tried to lure her into the vehicle before reaching towards her.

She moved away before boarding her bus and reporting the incident to the driver.

The man then approached the teenager's mother, who was nearby, and exposed himself and became abusive before driving away, NSW Police said.

Officers arrested the 41-year-old later in the morning before he allegedly damaged a police cell.

He was charged with attempting to detain a person with intent to obtain advantage, intimidation, wilful and obscene exposure, possessing a prohibited drug, driving on a cancelled licence and maliciously damaging property.

He has been refused bail ahead of an expected appearance in Campbelltown Local Court on Friday.
