A tradesman who spent 12 hours atop a Sydney unit block while his girlfriend's body lay in a laneway below has pleaded guilty to her murder.

June Oh Seo, now 38, was arrested in October 2017 after a long stand-off with police after he climbed onto a perspex balcony roof at the top of the block in Chatswood.

The body of 34-year-old Hee Kyung Choi had been found by a passer-by in the laneway below.

In the NSW Supreme Court on Friday, Seo - through a Korean interpreter - pleaded guilty to her murder.

He's scheduled to face a sentence hearing on March 1, 2019.
