NSW laws to help young abuse victims

Child sex abuse victims facing the daunting task of confronting their attackers in court will be able to pre-record their evidence under laws due to come before NSW Parliament.

The legislation, set to be introduced by Attorney-General Gabrielle Upton on Thursday, also paves the way for a trial of Children's Champions to help guide young complainants through.

"Children's Champions will be there every step of the way to help the victims, as well as to communicate with police and the courts to make sure children's voices are heard," Ms Upton said.

"Additionally, allowing victims to pre-record their evidence as early as possible will dramatically reduce the stress and trauma of being part of the court process."

The measures will be trialled over a three-year pilot in Sydney and Newcastle from next year.
